Spring in the Vines September 01 2018

The vineyard is WET! 184mm of rain in August alone has seen our dams fill in record time.

This excess water is fantastic for the property and the water table, with a full soil profile meaning the growing season will be vigorous and tenacious. The natural springs that dot the Estate are flowing throughout various water courses on the property, meaning many of the blocks are too boggy to get machinery or manpower on to finish wrapping down our pruned vines.

We are seeing budburst in our Chardonnay, Chenin, Malbec and Semillon blocks and the other varieties are close to showing signs of budswell and shoot growth. This means our growing season is underway!

To add another element to our blending options in years to come, we will be planting a small block of a Portuguese variety called Touriga Nacional. This is a red grape with super primary aromas and a juicy, plush fruit flavour profile.

Up in the winery things are all in tune. The 2018 Sparkling Chenin base wine is on finings and will be heading to tirage and maturation this month. Preparations are being made to blend the 2017 single vineyard Shiraz, Wildwood Ridge Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and another 2017 Shiraz Tempranillo (one of the Estate’s best sellers!).

The coming months will see the implementation of new plant and equipment to expand our winery as we head towards full scale production capability.

With the release of our 2018 'A' Collection Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, 2016 Wildwood Ridge Reserve Chenin and 2016 Block 4 Chenin, we have three great wines to roll into the warmer months with!
