Wine & Vine Update - May 2019 May 22 2019

As Winter fast approaches and the seasonal changes become more apparent across the region, the vineyard is heading into dormancy.

The focus now is rejuvenating the soils to ensure the vines are in peak condition for the Spring growing season. Mid row disking, organic manures and cover crop seeding will all happen over the next 2 weeks. These practices are vital for healthy soils but also helping to eliminate weeds and the need for herbicide use.

With vintage 2019 wrapped up we are making room for some exciting projects over the coming months including planting some Touriga Nacional, a red Portuguese variety that will provide some amazing fruit in the years ahead. There are also plans to re-work some of the hanging cane Sauvignon Blanc over to Grenache to take some demand pressure off the Tempranillo.

The remainder of 2019 will also bring some exciting new release wines rolling out at cellar door:

2017 Wildwood Ridge Reserve Chardonnay
